Jarvis Estates, Napa Valley, California

This is a part of our Winery Down Wednesday series, a simple way to discover a new winery every Wednesday with a casual write-up directly from me, Orson Hall (owner of Wine Tours by Design).

A visit to Jarvis Estate is a journey, like no other. It’s the country’s first winery built entirely underground and provides a glimpse into the meticulous steps that go into producing Jarvis wines. Touring the 45,000 square foot cave is a unique experience

That includes a visit to the Cuve Gallery, a collection of one dozen massive oak vessels assembled in the cave by French coopers. The underground waterfall near the end of the tour ensures steady cave temperatures and humidity.

Their tour concludes with a seated experience in their Tasting Chamber behind glass doors, next to the cave’s stream, sampling six Jarvis Estate and Reserve Collection wines.
